Forth Valley Water Polo Club organizes Olympic Games Water Polo
Falkirk based water polo club Forth Valley hosted the first ever Next Generation Olympic Games Water Polo. The world-class event was open to anyone aged under fifteen years old. Youths from central Scotland used this exciting opportunity to come along for a fun evening of water polo. The swimming pool of Larbert High hosted 35 enthusiastic kids who had their first ever experience with this fast paced, team sport.
Forth Valley Water Polo Club and two other clubs recently joined Strathclyde University to support a Direct Club Investment project that has seen full time international level 3 coach Ton Kloosterman from The Netherlands gain employment to support and develop water polo in the West of Scotland.
Club president Lorna Cherrie: ‘This is an extremely exciting project, and we are very excited to see the growth and development that unfolds over the next few years. This event led by Kloosterman is the first step to reach our goals. Water polo is fantastic fun and great for fitness. We currently have teams in both girls and boys Scottish leagues and National Development Squads, but we would like to add more players. Besides recruiting more players, this event was also an opportunity to gain more volunteers.
The club is passionate about not only developing and supporting players that want to play to National level but also those that want to develop their leadership, coaching or lifeguarding skills. I was really proud to see our older players embrace this event by helping to coach, DJ, photograph and coordinate the event.’
Kloosterman will host upcoming training sessions at Larbert High on Thursdays from 18:30 until 20:30 PM. Training runs throughout term time. New players can come along for the first 4 weeks FREE.
